Consecration of the House

by Robert MacColl Adams

For the dedication of Scofield Memorial Church, Dallas, Texas, October, 1979
a paraphrase of Hebrews 3:1-6

Except the LORD build the house, they labor in vain that build it;
Except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.

Consecrated brethren, sharers in the Message
That Heaven sent to bring us all into eternal bliss,
Keep your eyes on Jesus, the Apostle of our Calling,
High Priest of the sanctifying faith that we possess.

He was true to God, whose love sent Him to our planet--
Faithful, just as Moses over Israel's chosen Nation:
Jesus, though, is greater: He deserves that higher honor
Given to the builder over all his hands may fashion.

For every house is built by some man,
But He that built all things is God.

Moses, faithful steward, serving in God's household,
Pointed to the coming Heir, the Savior from above;
Jesus is the Son for whom the house, from the beginning,
Was planned by God the Father as the house of perfect Love.

Consecrated brethren, we who keep our confidence,
We who learn from Jesus the obedience of our Lord,
We are house and household for the coming Prince of Glory,
Holding fast our hope in full reliance on His Word.
